About Me

Health issues have led me to discover the power of real food in starting and maintaining the healing process. The health of the gut is the health of the body. I was so taken by the results of finding this out for myself, that I decided to become a Certified Nutrition Practitioner (CNP), having graduated in honours from The Institute of Holistic Nutrition (IHN) in 2012, so that I can bring my knowledge and experience to those looking to improve their health.

The Functional Medicine approach, looking to find the root cause of symptoms, is the means to optimal health of the whole person, as God created us, “your entire body, including all of the core systems, interact(ing) as this simple, sophisticated symphony.” (Dr. Mark Hyman)

I welcome anyone who is willing to make changes for the better. We’ll look at what you’re eating and make some adjustments. We’ll look at the way you’re handling stress, either past or present. We’ll look at what supplements will help your symphony to perform better. We’ll get to know each other and walk this journey to better health together.

A Holistic Nutritionist does not diagnose and does not prescribe medications. A Holistic Nutritionist gets to know you and your health history, your likes & dislikes, your joys and sorrows – the whole person. Diet & lifestyle are the two main culprits when it comes to illness or just not feeling good. As well, we look at deficiencies. Then, we can get at the root cause. Healing from the inside out will need diet & lifestyle recommendations, and, likely natural supplements (vitamins, minerals, herbs, homeopathy) may also be recommended.

There is much recent research into the power of the gut and its mark on our health. Our gut naturally contains both good and bad bacteria. We need to ensure that the good bacteria outnumbers the bad bacteria to maintain good health. What affects the gut most? The foods and drinks we consume. If we are consuming packaged, processed, high sugar foods, then we are throwing off the bacteria ratio in our gut, and therefor creating the backdrop to poor health. Whereas, if we consume foods from the earth, vegetables, fruits, grains, meats, then we can take comfort in knowing we are eating real food that makes a real difference in our health status. Whether vegan, vegetarian, meat eater or other, everyone can benefit from eating close to the earth.

The benefits of seeing a Holistic Nutritionist are many. You will be under the care of a practitioner who takes the time to get to know you, your health history and your health concerns. The Holistic Nutritionist helps you reach your health goals through sharing with you her knowledge and experience with food and its power to heal. You will be provided with handouts to take home for your ongoing reference, as well as menu plans, recipes and any other information related to bringing your health to the next level, ie. ways to manage stress, exercise, etc.

Do Holistic Nutritionists treat medical conditions, such as: high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, obesity, cancer, anxiety,depression, etc.?

Holistic Nutritionists do not diagnose or treat specific medical conditions. Rather, we address the environment in which these illnesses exist, addressing the two main culprits – diet & lifestyle – then deficiencies, and getting at the root cause of the symptoms that were given a name, the diagnosis.

Unfortunately, OHIP does not cover the cost of seeing a Holistic Nutritionist.

Some insurance companies cover Holistic Nutritionist. Check with your insurance company to see if you have coverage.
